St Mary’s Playgroup welcomes children aged 2½ years upwards. Playgroup hours are from 11.15 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. Variations in hours can be arranged. The aim of the Playgroup is for a child to develop social skills and learn through play. Although the Playgroup is situated on school premises, it is run independently.
The Nursery Class at St. Mary’s School provides for children during the year before their entry into the main school.
The Nursery is open from 9 o’clock until 11.15 a.m. every weekday morning. Also there is an afternoon nursery class from 1pm—3.15pm.
The class is situated in a classroom in the main school. It is staffed by a qualified teacher and Nursery Assistants, with a ratio of one adult to eight children. Nursery children wear full school uniform.
The Nursery Class aims to provide a friendly, happy and secure environment in which the young children can learn to talk, play and work with each other. The children receive help with pre-reading and pre-number skills, in preparation for their entry into the Reception Class. Parents are most welcome to bring their child to see the Nursery Class in action before their first day.
