PDG

The Pupil Deprivation Grant (PDG)

The Pupil Deprivation Grant (PDG) is the Welsh Government’s principal means of supporting schools to reduce the impact of a disadvantaged background on the educational attainment of pupils who receive Free School Meals (FSM) or who are Looked After Children (LAC).

The PDG is intended to overcome the additional barriers that some learners face which prevent them from attaining as well as their peers, whatever their ability.

The strategies being implemented are:


Groups of children requiring input with literacy skills have been identified and timetabled weekly group work has been carefully planned and delivered by a Qualified Teacher.

In 2014 the results for learners who qualified for support through the PDG were :-


Numeracy Focus Groups

 24 pupils     3 x weekly sessions   9/24 (37.5%) have shown improvement

Literacy Focus Groups

11 pupils    3 x weekly sessions   6/11 (54.5%) have shown improvement
