Next week we have 2 special days to celebrate here at Saint Mary’s Primary School.
Next Thursday is Saint David’s Day or Dydd Gwyl Dewi Sant. The children are being asked to wear their Wales kit or come in something red to help make the day special. Lots of activities are being planned in classes to celebrate our Welsh heritage and culture and Mrs Speight’s class will be taking the Mass for Saint David on Friday.
Friday will be our World Book Day celebration. The children are being asked to dress up as their favourite character and contribute £1 towards the official World Book Day charity Book Aid International. We have our local storyteller Gill dropping in during the afternoon and classes will be buddying up to share stories together as well as lots of fun things to do and make in class.
In addition this year we are running a sponsored READATHON. We are embarking on a whole school project to upgrade our reading schemes. Children will be sponsored to read as many books as they can by the 9th March. If you would like to sponsor your child and help us out then you may donate on the Just Giving website (info to follow). Alternatively there is a sponsor form attached.
Please support us as best you can.
Richard Jones/ Ceri Doutch
Headlice have been detected in the hair of some of our children in Year 0/1 class (Miss Doutch) and Year 1/2 (Mrs Speight). It is essential that you check, and if necessary, treat your child's hair immediately.
By working together we can drastically reduce this problem and I ask that you check your child's hair daily. Should you find head lice please inform the school and begin treatment immediately. Advice for parents can be found online by following the link below.
Thank you for your cooperation.
We will be holding a football training session after school on Monday 5th March 3.15-4.15pm with Andy Murphy.
Please ensure your child has their football kit and a bottle of water.
Just a quick update to say that we will be celebrating World Book Day this year on Friday 2nd March as it is St David's Day on Thursday 1st March.
More details to follow.
Please note that there will be no music lessons next Tuesday 27th February due to Mr Morgan being away on a course. He will rearrange the lesson for an alternative day.
Just a quick reminder that next week is half term.
The school will be closed on Monday 19th February for teacher's training.
We look forward to seeing the children back in school on Tuesday 20th February.
Have a great half term!
There will be a slight change of menu this Friday 9th February.
Instead of flapjacks, the children will be having Pancakes with Chocolate Custard.
A Parent of a child in the Nursery/Reception class has informed us that their child has Scarlet Fever.
Please see the following link to give you information on checking your child.
I am writing to remind you that tomorrow the children are invited to come to school dressed in Orange (the brighter the better!!), we ask for a donation of £1 each for being allowed to not come in school uniform and wear orange instead.
Also if you can spare any other loose change we will be doing a coin trail spelling out the word MUSCLES on the playground. Every meter of pennies is 50p!!
The school council are arranging an ‘Orange Art Attack’ where the children can take part in an art activity. Their art work will be available for you to purchase for a donation at the end of the day.
In addition there will be a special raffle on the day. For an extra £1 the children can have their names entered into a raffle. The winner will be drawn at random during the morning, then at lunchtime the winner will get to spray Mr Jones’s hair orange!!!
We hope that you will support this fundraising day and make our GO ORANGE DAY a great success.
