February, 2018

23.02.2018

Dear Parents,

Next week we have 2 special days to celebrate here at Saint Mary’s Primary School.

Next Thursday is Saint David’s Day or Dydd Gwyl Dewi Sant. The children are being asked to wear their Wales kit or come in something red to help make the day special. Lots of activities are being planned in classes to celebrate our Welsh heritage and culture and Mrs Speight’s class will be taking the Mass for Saint David on Friday.

Friday will be our World Book Day celebration. The children are being asked to dress up as their favourite character and contribute £1 towards the official World Book Day charity Book Aid International. We have our local storyteller Gill dropping in during the afternoon and classes will be buddying up to share stories together as well as lots of fun things to do and make in class.

In addition this year we are running a sponsored READATHON. We are embarking on a whole school project to upgrade our reading schemes. Children will be sponsored to read as many books as they can by the 9th March. If you would like to sponsor your child and help us out then you may donate on the Just Giving website (info to follow). Alternatively there is a sponsor form attached.

Please support us as best you can.

Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Richard Jones/ Ceri Doutch

Dear Parent

Headlice have been detected in the hair of some of our children in Year 0/1 class (Miss Doutch)  and Year 1/2 (Mrs Speight).  It is essential that you check, and if necessary, treat your child's hair immediately.

By working together we can drastically reduce this problem and I ask that you check your child's hair daily. Should you find head lice please inform the school and begin treatment immediately. Advice for parents can be found online by following the link below.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Yours sincerely

Richard Jones

Dear Parents and Friends,

It is with a very heavy heart that we write to inform you of the death of our dear friend and colleague Paula Thomas, or 'Aunty Paula' as many of the children knew her.

She was a dedicated and enthusiastic member of our school community and a person whom we were able to call a friend. She always had a cheery 'hello' and a smile to welcome the quietest of children. She was always eager to get involved, and we are lucky to have many pictures of our dressing up days with Paula in one of her wonderful costumes.

As you can imagine, we are all shocked at this news, but our hearts, prayers and love go out to Mike and Sam, Paula's beloved husband and son; and all her family and friends at this very sad time.

The children have been told and teachers are here to support and answer their questions as honestly and openly as we possibly can.

The governors have decided that as a mark of respect for our dear friend, all staff will attend Paula's funeral. This does mean that the school will be shut on that day.

We will contact you again as soon as we have a date.

We keep all those who loved Paula in our prayers and thoughts.

God bless,

Richard Jones

Dear Parents

I am writing to remind you that tomorrow the children are invited to come to school dressed in Orange (the brighter the better!!), we ask for a donation of £1 each for being allowed to not come in school uniform and wear orange instead.

Also if you can spare any other loose change we will be doing a coin trail spelling out the word MUSCLES on the playground. Every meter of pennies is 50p!!

The school council are arranging an ‘Orange Art Attack’ where the children can take part in an art activity. Their art work will be available for you to purchase for a donation at the end of the day.

In addition there will be a special raffle on the day. For an extra £1 the children can have their names entered into a raffle. The winner will be drawn at random during the morning, then at lunchtime the winner will get to spray Mr Jones’s hair orange!!!

We hope that you will support this fundraising day and make our GO ORANGE DAY a great success.

Thank you for your support,

Kind regards

Richard Jones
